Hermes Logistik Gruppe (HLG) is Germany's largest post-independent logistics service provider for deliveries to private customers. Hermes transports nearly everything from letters through parcels to furniture and bulky goods.

With over 14,000 ParcelShops in Germany, the company comes with Europe's largest nationwide network of receiving offices for private parcel shipments. Whether in the nearest kiosk, bakery or even in dry cleaners, Hermes relies on personal contact with its customers and opening hours which also accommodate working people. Mail order companies also use the ParcelShops as an alternative delivery address and customers can choose to pick up their consignments there at their own convenience.

Already one in three B2C parcels in Germany are delivered by the Hermes Logistik Gruppe making HLG one of the most important specialists in private front door deliveries with one million customer contacts every day. More than 99 percent of shipments arrive on time and safely with the recipient. This is achieved through our variety of customer-oriented services such as three-hour delivery time slot, text messages for direct deliveries to a ParcelShop, Saturday deliveries, deliveries left with neighbours, holiday storage etc.

The Hermes delivery network allows to deliver a shipment up to four times without applying any surcharges - a unique service in Germany. An integrated electronic information system provides a complete "shipment history" so that clients and end customers can track their shipments via the internet and retrieve all the important information at all times.

The Challenge

2010: Changing and increasing requirements of the customers have been the key fact to search in the European IT-vendor market for a performing and reliable solution for parcel labeling and data exchange. Hermes LG Deutschland GmbH decided for the most modern available solution, the XLogics Shipping Center. The XLogics Shipping Center is also a supplement to an existing HTML solution what is currently available for smaller customers. The target has been to create a perfect setup of an easy implementation combined with multi-functionality based on a performing centralized application. Avoiding maintenance effort and individual offline-solutions were the major target.

 

Our Role and Solution

XLogics Group created a future-oriented concept enabling Hermes to connect customer of all customer segments independent of their daily parcel volumes. The centralized XLogics Shipping Center runs on XLogics' high-end server farm. A direct-link based on a flexible XML Web Service interface enables customers of the mail order business or e-commerce business to integrate the label creation and data exchange easily. Manual needs for the support of typical warehouse distribution are covered by special smart front-ends, the Smart Shipping Clients.

The complete solution has been branded on the official Hermes brand. After the individualization of the worldwide standardized XLogics Shipping Center it became the "Hermes Shipping Center".

  

The Result

The first customers have been successfully connected in the beginning of 2011. Parcel volumes increase daily and all parties are benefitted by the convenient Hermes Shipping Center.

Split up of TNT

On 25 May 2011 the General Meeting of Shareholders of TNT N.V. approved the split of TNT into a mail company, PostNL, and an express company, TNT Express. As a result the corporate website of TNT, group.tnt.com, has been suspended.

From now on, TNT Post will be known as PostNL. A Dutch name for a company with boundless ambition.

In the British postal market, for instance, where our market share has grown to over 20%.

How does this international growth fit in with our domestic activities? As the clear market leader in the Netherlands we deliver billions of mail items each year. That’s an awful lot for Dutch standards. Yet we now deliver more mail abroad, and our market share there is growing.

Calling PostNL a typically Dutch player therefore doesn’t really do us justice. Then again, perhaps it is indeed typically Dutch to do business beyond borders.

The Challenge

2006: TPG NL provided an outdated shipping system to its customers. The old solution has to be replaced by a modern and future oriented customer automation solution. More flexibility and the orientation at developing parcel markets for the B2C business have been the challenges. These had to be combined with requirements regarding high integration into customers‘ environments and the back-end of TPG.


Our Role and Solution

XLogics won the competition between many potential IT-vendors and got the order by TPG to provide a Desktop Solution and a Web Solution. Parcelware was born, based on the existing modern Microsoft.Net standard solutions of XLogics. Our software engineers extended the standard solution by many useful functionalities and features requested by TPG customers. The Microsoft.Net based application, developed in C# was launched the first time in 2003 under the brand XPack and EasyPAK.
 

Finally, one of the most convenient and reliable solutions revolutionized the West European logistics market.

The Result

XLogics became a preferred partner for all shipping services.  


The XLogics Team is continuously standing behind the logistics provider. We are responsible for the technical progress, further developments and the 3rd level support. Further business services and logistics applications for external and internal purposes have been developed for that customer.

Austrian Post is the leading provider of mail shipping services in Austria. Austrian Post's main business activities include mail and parcel shipping services as well as the provision of financial services in cooperation with its partner of many years, BAWAG P.S.K. The business area "Postbus Services" ("Postautodienst") was retroactively spun off on January 1, 2000.

Business areas "Mail", "Branch Network", "Kurier.Express.Paket (KEP) and "Media Post" were restructured to meet market demands and have been consolidated into the "Mail", "Parcel & Logistics" and "Branch Network" Divisions.

The Challenge

2003: Automation became an important role by the change of the parcel operation at Post.at. The austrian market leader had to face more challenges in the European logistics market. Because of the further development of barcode systems and EDI exchange, as well as the request of the customers to be provided with a shipping software, the need of a future-oriented shipping solution grew.


Our Role and Solution

XLogics developed future oriented concepts for integrating customer needs and requirements of the logistics provider. Two applications were born, based on one technical kernel. EasyPAK Online and EasyPAK Desktop have been placed in the logistics market. At that time the modern Microsoft.Net Technology was brand new. XLogics and Post.at worked on the biggest MS.Net project in Europe. EasyPAK was also based on the well-known XPack Software.

We made a co-branding and published the brand EasyPAK. We provided the customer with consulting and software engineering services.

The Result

More than 3.000 solutions have been installed in the Austrian and South-East European markets by Austrian Post and XLogics.

Die Anwendung, bestehend aus XPack Black Box und XTrace die auf der Microsoft.Net Technologie basiert, fügt sich mit ihrer Plattformunabhängigkeit in die von NETRADA entwickelte e-commerce Umgebung nahtlos ein.

Eine hohe Flexibilität und Skalierbarkeit, gepaart mit der zukunftsfähigen und immer erweiterbaren Programmsprache, sind für das Unternehmen die Entscheidungskriterien zur Nutzung des XLogics Shipping Centers gewesen und bestätigen, dass die Zusammenarbeit mit der XLogics Group in logistischen Fragen eine gute Entscheidung war.

Mit der Leistungsfähigkeit von bis zu 350 Versandaufträgen pro Minute bleibt noch jede Menge Zeit für die Versandaufbereitung. In dem Versandprozess wird beim Warenausgang nicht nur das Versandlabel für die Versendung mit DHL, Hermes, TNT Post, Österreichischer Post, Bring Parcel, La Poste oder Schweizerischer Post, sowie Kiala vorgenommen, sondern hier werden in einem Druckvorgang auf Hochleistungslaserdruckern integrierte DIN A3 Formate mit Rechnung und Retourenschein, sowie Retourenlabel erzeugt. “Möglich wird die Vereinigung der Daten in einem integrierten Formular durch den Einsatz des Moduls Form Designer, das für den Nutzer der Logistikanwendung die vollständig freie Gestaltungsmöglichkeit des Formularwesens ermöglichen”, so Michael Bitzer, IT-Consultant der Firma NETRADA. Die Ansteuerung des XLogics Shipping Centers vom hauseigenen und eigenentwickelten ERP-Sytem der Firma NETRADA erfolgt mittels XML Web Services.

Für beide Seiten, NETRADA und XLogics, stellt sich die seit 2004 währende Zusammenarbeit als eine fruchtbare und zukunftsorientierte Partnerschaft dar.
