Hermes Logistik Gruppe (HLG) is Germany's largest post-independent logistics service provider for deliveries to private customers. Hermes transports nearly everything from letters through parcels to furniture and bulky goods.
With over 14,000 ParcelShops in Germany, the company comes with Europe's largest nationwide network of receiving offices for private parcel shipments. Whether in the nearest kiosk, bakery or even in dry cleaners, Hermes relies on personal contact with its customers and opening hours which also accommodate working people. Mail order companies also use the ParcelShops as an alternative delivery address and customers can choose to pick up their consignments there at their own convenience.
Already one in three B2C parcels in Germany are delivered by the Hermes Logistik Gruppe making HLG one of the most important specialists in private front door deliveries with one million customer contacts every day. More than 99 percent of shipments arrive on time and safely with the recipient. This is achieved through our variety of customer-oriented services such as three-hour delivery time slot, text messages for direct deliveries to a ParcelShop, Saturday deliveries, deliveries left with neighbours, holiday storage etc.
The Hermes delivery network allows to deliver a shipment up to four times without applying any surcharges - a unique service in Germany. An integrated electronic information system provides a complete "shipment history" so that clients and end customers can track their shipments via the internet and retrieve all the important information at all times.

The Challenge
2010: Changing and increasing requirements of the customers have been the key fact to search in the European IT-vendor market for a performing and reliable solution for parcel labeling and data exchange. Hermes LG Deutschland GmbH decided for the most modern available solution, the XLogics Shipping Center. The XLogics Shipping Center is also a supplement to an existing HTML solution what is currently available for smaller customers. The target has been to create a perfect setup of an easy implementation combined with multi-functionality based on a performing centralized application. Avoiding maintenance effort and individual offline-solutions were the major target.
Our Role and Solution
XLogics Group created a future-oriented concept enabling Hermes to connect customer of all customer segments independent of their daily parcel volumes. The centralized XLogics Shipping Center runs on XLogics' high-end server farm. A direct-link based on a flexible XML Web Service interface enables customers of the mail order business or e-commerce business to integrate the label creation and data exchange easily. Manual needs for the support of typical warehouse distribution are covered by special smart front-ends, the Smart Shipping Clients.
The complete solution has been branded on the official Hermes brand. After the individualization of the worldwide standardized XLogics Shipping Center it became the "Hermes Shipping Center".
The Result
The first customers have been successfully connected in the beginning of 2011. Parcel volumes increase daily and all parties are benefitted by the convenient Hermes Shipping Center.
